Buyers prefer experimentation over "brand pull" when it comes to smartphones as they become brand-agnostic, stated CMR's Mobile Industry Consumer Insight (MICI) poll.

The poll stated their tastes are being driven by factors like overall product quality (92 percent), product functionality (90 percent), product aesthetics (82 percent) and also dependable after-sales service, together with rapid turnaround period (76 percent).

"At a hyper-competitive marketplace, marked with the smart sea of sameness, manufacturers which invest in ensuring product quality and other milder aspects, win large.

"Indian customers, particularly post-millennials and Gen-Z are extremely demanding. For them, product design, quality, and total value for money are of critical importance," said Narinder Kumar, Lead Analyst-IIG, CMR, in a declaration.

The poll was conducted on the top eight Indian towns in February 2019 and coated youth and teens between the age group of 15 to 30 from different backgrounds and income levels.

Even though Samsung, using its vast retail community, scored large on shuttle service, 89 percent of respondents were found to be loyal to Oppo, followed closely by Xiaomi and Realme.

"The CMR MICI poll results affirm the significance and fire that customers invest in and connect with their smartphones. While larger smartphone manufacturers continue to hold on their own pockets of power, it's intriguing to see Realme outperform the competition," said Satya Mohanty, Head-User Research Practice, CMR.
