India has banned another 54 foreign-owned apps, making it impossible to access them through app stores. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has issued a list of 54 apps that may be banned, including the battle royale game Garena Free Fire, which is owned by Singapore-based Sea Ltd. It has "count control for a stopping, cover, or breaking of any details over any computer resource," according to the authorities.
While there are several lower-level print editing, video editing, and app cloning apps on the list, Garena Free Fire, one of India's most popular games, is the most notable name. Garena gained popularity after the ban on PUBG Mobile in 2020 created a kink in India's mobile gaming sedulity. Nearly a year later, Krafton released Battlegrounds Mobile India, a critical critique of PUBG Mobile that emphasised the game's lack of ties to China.
The prohibition on Garena Free Fire does not affect the publisher's other game, Garena Free Fire Max.
