Smriti Mandhana 1st Indian Woman To Hit Test Century In Pink Ball

 


Ending the previous day with Eighty four runs on the scoreboard, the south paw of Indian women’s cricket Smriti Mandhana scored a century this morning. Her maiden 100 has been etched in the book of cricketing history as she is the 1st Indian woman cricketer to score a ton in a day and night test match. She is even the first one to reach the magical 3 figure mark in the land of the Aussies.


Opening the Indian innings, Mandhana put up a brave fight on day 2, scoring 127 runs from 216 balls. Reaching her ton in the 52nd over, with a short arm pull shot off an Ellysse Perry’s delivery. Mandhana and Punam Raut added an Indian record of 102 runs in the Australia for the 2nd wicket partnership. This contained 22 boundaries and 6 who were dismissed by Ashleigh Gardner. With this 100, the left-hander broke a long-standing record of England's Molly Hide for the highest Test score by a visiting player in the Australia. Hide had scored 124, which happened way back in year 1949.


After winning the toss, Australia decided to field 1st in the one-off test match that was being played in the Queensland. Right from the start, India’s batters were in the driving seat taking full control of the innings, despite most of the overs being washed off because of  the rain, Indian stuck to their game plan.


Former cricketer Wasim Jaffer congratulated the batter on The Twitter and termed Mandhana as "The Goddess of the offside". Jaffer wrote: "The Goddess of the Offside. Congratulations on your maiden test hundred @mandhana_smriti. First of several. Well played #AUSvIND. She even  received praises from the Former India women's team player and cricket commentator, Anjum Chopra, who praised Mandhana’s effort as she wrote: "A easy celebration. That's Smriti Mandhana scoring her maiden Test #AUSvIND #PinkBallTest. @mandhana_smriti @BCCIWomen. Cricket analyst and former Indian men's team opener, Aakash Chopra, took to the twitter and showered praises on the southpaw. He wrote: "Test Century. First ever. Surely, the first of many. Well played, Smriti Mandhana. Create it BIG #PinkBallTest #AusvInd."


Master blaster took to his microsite handle to send out his warm wishes for Mandhana’s century.
